Auto Accidents
- Stop immediately.
- Call 911 to report the accident.
- Seek medical attention for anyone who is injured.
- Discuss the particulars of the accident only with the police and your insurance agency. NEVER ADMIT FAULT!
- Exchange information with the other involved parties. It's helpful to keep a ballpoint pen and a small note pad in your glove box just for this purpose. Obtain their names, phone numbers, addresses, insurance companies, and insurance policy numbers. If you're able, make a sketch of the scene of the accident to help you remember details later on. Even better, keep a disposable camera in your glove box to take pictures of the scene for later reference.
- If witnesses are available, obtain their names and phone numbers.
Property Damage
- Secure the premises in order to prevent further damage from occurring. For example, place tarps over roof damage to prevent leaks, or hang plywood over broken windows to prevent access. If necessary, call a general contractor to assist you.
Employee Injuries
- Complete a first report of injury form and send it promptly to your workers compensation insurance company's work comp claim office. This information was provided with your policy.
- Once an adjuster is assigned to the claim, forward all medical bills directly to them.
- Investigate the accident and implement any necessary corrective action to prevent future occurrences.
- Require the employee to complete an injury report including the date of the accident, description of the accident, type of injury, and location of the accident.
General Liability Suits
- If you receive any kind of letter, legal notice, summons, or cause of action from a third party alleging that you harmed them or damaged their property in any way.
